I had a conversation with a close friend this weekend that went like this:
Her: Well, Obama might get the Presidency but I think he’ll be assassinated.
Me: What? I don’t think so. I think that whole assassination thing is probably pretty hard to do.
Her: Well, I sure HOPE he gets assassinated!
Me: *faints*
It turns out that she wants him assassinated because he is going to completely ruin the country. Her examples? She didn’t have any but said that her son knew a bunch.
*faints again*
It’s things like this that both worry and astound me. How a normal (ok, semi-normal) person could wish for the death of another person just because of political affiliation is completely beyond me. It also, quite frankly, makes me ill. And embarrassed.
Honestly, I’m not sure it’s even possible to win unless ‘they’ want you to.
That sounds crazier than I intended, but it’s something along those lines.
Ok, so if triggering a mortgage crisis, launching a war that’s killed thousands of people and helped raise the price of gas from $1.79 to $4.29, letting Osama bin Laden escape justice, all but abandoning New Orleans after a major disaster, spying on Americans, torturing prisoners, fiddling while the earth burns under global warming, putting hacks with no experience into key positions and firing people because of their party affiliation, giving out no-bid contracts to oil buddies and lying to everyone about just about everything ISN’T ruining the country, just how fricking bad can Obama be???
I’m with you Buzz ... *faints*
I didn’t say assassinated. I said ASSINATED. There’s a difference, GOD.
WHUUUUUUUUUUUUT?
OH! If it’s Statia’s son, that’s different. He’s always right. We’re screwed.
What Solonor said in the long comment - “ditto”!
People with strong party affiliation that absolutely refuse to see how damning Bush’s administration has been remind me of people in a cult. They will stick with their mantras, no matter how much reality has proven their belief is wrong.
Normal Republicans are admitting that Bush’s presidency is a disaster. It’s the ones like the woman you talked to that really frighten me. With “the masses” so out of touch, our government officials will soon have absolute power beyond our nightmares. And their loyal followers will defend them all the way to their own personal homelessness.
I’m with you buzz, that kind of sentiment plain worries me. Regardless of what side of the coin you fall on, I’ve heard more detrimental/negative things said regarding Senator Obama than Senator McCain. Just plain frightens me.
This actually happened? I mean...really? She actually said she hoped he was assassinated? Out loud?
I’m with you. People sometimes make me sorry I’m a person.
One step forward.... thirty seven back!
This mentality makes it really hard for me to keep my mouth shut and not call the person an idiot....
I usually say things like....
“Do you REALLY believe what you are saying?”
-d
So the question is: Are you still close friends?
