My good friend Statia has a post about reading her past blog posts. Recently I have done the same thing on my own site. I have gone back and, to be brutally frank, Do you know him, Brutally Frank? BF, we used to call him?...wait what was I talking about?? Oh yeah, old blog posts. I read some of my old stuff and it cracks me way up. Some really funny stuff, in my not-so-humble opinion. And then I get all fired up to do it again. Easy, right? Right. So I sit there with keyboard in hand and I say to myself
“Buzz, write something funny.”
*blink*
“Go ahead, Buzzy boy. Whip out a little wit. Dazzle them!”
*whistles and looks around aimlessly*
“Oh geez, man. Have you lost it? Are you out of funny?”
*Ummmm.....A horse walks into a bar and the bartender says....*
“Oh for the love of Peter, Paul and Mary! You KNOW that’s not what I’m talking about. Now write something funny!”
So yeah, I need to write something funny. That’s my goal. I will work on it. Hopefully when I write it I won’t have to explain that THAT was the funny. Hopefully you’ll just know it when you read it.
Stay tuned.
I’ll know it.
Go ahead, whip it out… oh wait. What were we talking about again?
I had sort of the same thing happen recently. I was reading through some old blog posts and I was quite impressed with the writing. Not funny like you, but not as boring as I usually imagined my writing to be. Sadly I think I have been on a real boring streak for a long time. Or not. I can’t judge my writing anymore.
Amy (previously of PsychoBabble) here. I just did that myself. The whole re-reading thing. It’s tough when that blog doesn’t exist anymore, but thanks to the Wayback Machine I was able to traipse through the past. Damn, near the end there, my writing was actually good. And I managed funny more than a few times.
Now? Eh.
I think it’s a lack of time thing. I feel as though I should say something but don’t really take the time to think about it so I jot something down just to keep the damn blog active.
The effort (or lack of it) shows. I’m trying to figure out how to get back to where I was as far as writing quality.
I think it’s like the Nike commercials say, Just Do It. Well, not IT. I mean, not on the blog. I still want to do IT....oh nevermind.
