It's funny, the things that you see every day but never really see. One of those things for me is the nuclear power plant in Limerick, Pa. I literally see this everyday. We always joke that the towers create all of the clouds in the sky. It's amazing how often it looks that way. In fact, here's a view of the twin towers from my driveway:
Pretty neat, huh. And no, I'm not all a-sceered about it blowing up. Don't be silly. Anyway, the other day, Pat and I decided it might be fun to drive to it. See what it was like up close and personal. Fun! So off we went. As we approached it, we started to realize how incredibly large these bohemoths were! They're gi-normous! Here's a picture of the towers as we got nearer:
Ok, now I was getting a little a-sceered. I never realized before that the towers were sitting in smoking saucers of hellfire. Weird. Being the intrepid explorers that we are, we forged ahead. To get closer we actually had to get onto this dinky little road. As we turned a corner, WHOA NELLY. There they were. Right in our face! 3D and comin' at'cha! Good thing I was wearing my "Oops, I Crapped My Pants" underwear! Here's what we saw as we rounded the bend.
As we sat and checked them out we noticed that we were experiencing the "Limerick Rain". Droplets from the steam billowing out of the tops of the towers were falling on our car. Ok, that's good enough for me. We headed home.
All in all, pretty cool. I'm glad we went and saw that. Now my appetite is all whetted up to see more stuff. Hey Pat, what can we go see next?
Oh, and happy Monday everybody. I hope your weekend went swimmingly.

Posted by: Jeff A at March 6, 2006 07:55 AMJust let us all know when the FBI comes knocking at your front door for taking pictures. This harmless act could be interpreted as a terrorist plot. I’m supporting you all the way old buddy. I’m heading to the supermarket and Home Depot for cake mix and a file.
Posted by: BillyBob at March 6, 2006 08:25 AMAt night they are really cool - it's like this little city over there. It's all lit up.
My kids call them the "cloud makers".
Posted by: ls at March 6, 2006 08:48 AMHmmm... Does Chernobyl ring any bells for you? ;)
Posted by: Erin at March 6, 2006 09:35 AMNo way. Hanford was 145 miles from us at one time and that was too darn close for me.
Posted by: Nanc' at March 6, 2006 09:41 AMI was wondering the same thing about the pictures.
Aren't the best discoveries the unplanned ones! Those adventures where you hop in the car and go. Fun!
Good pictures too!
Posted by: Laurie at March 6, 2006 10:25 AMI have an idea for your next adventure. How about some up close pictures of a Quarry. I think that would be neat, I'm too scared to get to the edge to see what they look like inside.
Posted by: at March 6, 2006 10:51 AMYou should change the name of your pants from "Gee I crapped my pants," to "Gee, I irradiated my nuts."
Posted by: NuggetMaven at March 6, 2006 11:10 AMthat's actually really neat. a little creepy about the 'rain' though.
Posted by: sarah at March 6, 2006 11:27 AMso, any pits in the car paint this morning, from those rain dropplets...?

Posted by: Alicia at March 7, 2006 06:51 AMWow Buzz, that's some sceery shit. My first thought was also that you would receive a knock on your door. Seems strange that these two behemoth towers are tucked neatly into what looks like a little dairy community.
Dawn
That's a semi next to the towers??? Damn, there's some perspective for you.
