HONG KONG - A 23-year-old delivery worker who dreams of becoming an NBA basketball player has sued two beauty centers after their treatments failed to make him taller.

Lau Yat-fai paid $1,379 to the two centers in February but took them to court after the treatments — which involve electrical currents — failed to increase his height, according to court documents seen Friday by The Associated Press.

Lau, who is 5 feet 9 inches tall, said he has spent more than 10 times his monthly salary of $641 on various methods to boost his height, including hormonal injections, the Apple Daily and Ming Pao newspapers reported.

"This is my future career after all," said Lau, who has played basketball since he was 12. "I won't give up my dream of becoming a basketball star."

On Thursday, Lau reached a settlement with the two beauty centers, who agreed to partially refund his payments and give him 20 more treatments for free, the reports said. The treatments also involved massages and wrapping Lau's knees in hot blankets.

Despite the apparent lack of success, Lau told Apple Daily: "I'll go again to do the treatments since they are free."
