I like Leno. Really, I do. And I also like Conan. I never get to watch them because I'm old and I fall asleep way too early, but I do like them. That said, don't you think that announcing your retirement and replacement FIVE YEARS IN ADVANCE is a little self aggrandizing (is that the right word?). A little self-serving?
Does this mean we have a five year farewell tour to look forward to? Ay Carumba!!
Posted by Buzz at September 28, 2004 11:28 AMI am old too so it doesn't affect me, but it DOES seem a little early. We could all be dead by then...
Posted by: debby at September 28, 2004 11:48 AMJust so you know, I plan to die in the next 30 -70 years. Please plan accordingly.
Posted by: jjjjb at September 28, 2004 11:50 AMConan - GOOD
Jay - BAD
Dave - GOOD
JJJB - You said you would live forever, what happened ?
Posted by: MIKE at September 28, 2004 12:17 PMI have been thinking the SAME thing!
However, I think it was a great idea. I think Conan is funny, even though Dave is still my favorite!
Posted by: Dell at September 28, 2004 02:38 PMIsn't Cher on the fifth year of her 1 year farewell tour? You know what this means David Letterman will now have to give at least 5 years notice.
Posted by: Ideas Guy at September 28, 2004 02:38 PMI say.... watch out Conan.... I have a name for ya....
JOAN RIVERS.

Posted by: -d at September 28, 2004 03:08 PMMan. I must be really getting old when I don't hear big news like this!
Posted by: Meeta at September 28, 2004 04:00 PMToo bad it's not coming sooner. I like Conan and Dave...but Jay never has been my cup of tea.
Posted by: Vickie at September 28, 2004 04:37 PMBuzzie, where do you GET these pictures? First, the Kate Hudson slinky porn photo when she was, like, maybe 15, and now Jay and Conan from 10-15 years ago.
How about that Miguel Tejada ?
How about that Mark Teixeira ?
How about that Mark Loretta ?
How about that Adam Dunn ?
Sorry Buzzie, sorry MIKE....real busy lately...had to slip two things into one comment.
That is so weird. I heard about that but didn't know if it was true or not. Why would you announce it 5 years in advance? Does anyone really care? The only time I ever watched Jay was during the Clinton Sex Scandal. And I only watched monologue part because it was hilarious.
Posted by: Liv at September 28, 2004 09:36 PMI was there when the Rolling Stones gave their farewell tour. And the Who. Hell, I was in high school when they did this, now I'm nearly 40. And they still tour.
I don't think Jay will ever go away. Ever.
What was I saying again? Oh, yeah, I agree, giving your Five Year Notice is a little much. They said they were afraid Conan would jump networks when HIS contract was up so they wanted to dangle the carrot now instead of later. So now we get to hear "Only 200 more episodes of Jay Leno on the Tonite Show. ... Only 198 more episodes of Jay Leno on the Tonite Show." At least it won't be like Friends where they kept signing for another year while the show kept going down.
Posted by: ben at September 29, 2004 10:02 AMI don't really care for Conan that much, but I don't watch Jay either. I'm a David fan. I was a little surprised that they put that out there like that, what if things change in the next 5 years. They don' t know if they will be on the air next year let alone in 5. Come on lets be realistic.
