Dodge that!

Just in case you've never seen a fireman saying "What the hell??!!"

An Atlanta firefighter leans from a parking deck with a BMW protruding over the street below in downtown Atlanta, Wednesday, May 5, 2004. A valet trying to park a sports utility vehicle accidentally hit the parked BMW, sending the unoccupied car halfway off a deck and dangling over the street and a parked SUV below. No injuries were reported. The SUV and the front end of the BMW were intertwined in the collision. (AP Photo/Angelo Antonio Duarte)

Damn big trucks ! Doesn't surprise me, though. I was getting onto the turnpike last week, and a guy in a big Dodge Ram 1500 almost pushed me right into the Turnpike building. The guy was sitting so high up that he never saw my Camry on the passenger's side of his truck. When I hit my horn (so as not to get crushed or run off the road), he got ticked at me (flipped me the bird) even though he had just swung over 4 lanes without so much as a turn signal. I guess it was up to ME to let him know I was there. (When I hit my horn, I had about 2 feet left on my right, and if my window was down, I could've literally reached over with my left hand and touched his truck.)

I also help out with parking at events at my kid's school. I always ask people to back into spots, and insist that big SUVs do so, because we've had at least 3 fender benders at the school where a Suburban or Tahoe or Expedition has backed into a Corolla or something that size, because the car didn't sit high enough to be seen out of the SUVs rear-view window. (By the way, it's never the SUVs fender that gets bent.)

BMW. Valet. For some reason, I'm having a lot of trouble mustering up and sympathy.

I would be SOOOO mad if that was my beamer. SOOOO Mad. That valet would have to pay...hmmm, maybe that IS my beamer, and maybe I'm living in a dream world.

BUZZ, That helicopter crash deserves equal time. I saw this on the news last night, unbelievable.

P.S. Sorry Jimmy didn't know that was you.

Oui. I would be upset if I was the owner of that beamer too.

MIKE, I know it wasn't you. This guy looked like the blonde-haired guy on the Dodge "Is that a Hemi ?" commercials, except he didn't look as smart as the TV guy. He apparently had the money to get the truck, but he obviously had no idea of how to DRIVE the truck. He should have seen me from 3 lanes away, but my guess is he just assumed that people would get out of his way. But - just like Richard (Mayo-naise) Gere in 'An Officer and a Gentleman' - I had nowhere to go.

I'm bettin' that valet is going to have a hard time finding valet jobs after this.
