I'm declaring today "Liechtenstein Awareness Day" here on Buzzstuff. I mean, seriously, when was the last time you gave these wonderful people from this teensy country a single passing thought? Well, I'm here to fix that. Let's see.....what can we say about Liechtenstein, besides the fact that it's fun to say, but not so fun to type.
Liechtenstein is located in Central Europe, between Austria and Switzerland and look something like this:
It's 160 sq miles big and holds about 33,000 people. It is completely landlocked which means that their Navy really sucks (actually Switzerland is in charge of defending them). German is the principal language.
Hmmm, what else?
Oh, if you travel there, be sure to take plenty of Swiss francs, as that is the currency that they use. They have an extremely low poverty rate, in fact, I don't think that anyone in the country falls below the poverty line (but I could be wrong on that one).
Most of Liechtenstein looks something like this next pic. It's very mountainous and quite picturesque. I think we should all go sometime. Whaddya say?
Posted by Buzz at March 26, 2004 09:43 AMI'm for a vacation. Looks beautiful!

Posted by: Empress at March 26, 2004 09:49 AMRicola. Sorry, but I felt the need to say that. Do they wear lederhosen there? If so, I'm up for a trip there. I have a pair of blue suede lederhosen I've been dying to wear, but they've been deemed "unsuitable" for the office.
Posted by: jjjjb at March 26, 2004 09:52 AMIf you're buying, I'd love to go. Either that or just throw me in a suitcase or something. I'm good either way.
Posted by: Angry Pete at March 26, 2004 10:06 AMWhat? Luxembourg isn't getting a mention here? I mean, it's a Grand Duchy and everything.
Just for fun, I did a Yahoo search for "tiny countries" and, among other things, found

Due to very favorable tax situations there, Liechtenstein is home of many registered businesses. In fact, there are more businesses registered there than there are inhabitants.
Liechtenstein is well-known for its beautiful stamps. In fact, it does over 10 million dollars in the philatelic business each year.

Posted by: Curator at March 26, 2004 02:54 PMI've actually been there, and have a stamp in my passport to prove it! You line up in the Post Office and pay something like 5 francs for the priviledge.
Oh, and there's lots of shops selling Toblerone chocolate.
