Political Buzz (oh god, not again!)

How many political bloggers does it take to screw in a lightbulb say the same damn things over and over and over and over and over? Look, political bloggers (and man, are there ever A LOT of you), some of you I really like, some of you I really don't and most of you I'm sorta 'ehh, whatever'. But let me tell you a little secret.

We get it! Believe me, we get it already! Let's see if I can summarize one piece of it:

Dubya is the devil. Hitler. Evil incarnate. He put us into a war under false pretenses. He is directly responsible for the killing, no the MURDER, of our fine young troops.

And...

George W is our savior. He is the greatest world policeman ever. He was duped with some bad intelligence. Maybe. He rid the world of one of the worst world leaders ever known to man. Saddam himself was a WMD which was justification enough to go to war!

Why do I have to read this stuff EVERY SINGLE DAY, post after post? I know, I know, "if you don't want to read it, then don't visit the sites". Well, that's fine, except a lot of the political bloggers used to blog about other things, too. Things that I enjoyed. Fun stuff. Remember fun?

"How can we have fun when there is so much bad going on?"

Oh please. There has been "so much bad going on" for as long as there have been people. And there always will be. Peace on Earth? Not gonna happen. Not everywhere at once, anyway.

And I'm wondering who it is that you're talking to. Those that agree with you will continue to do so. And those that don't agree, never will. You're preaching to the choir, people. And you know it. Are you trying to convert the doubters? Yeah, good luck with that.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't express your views. Your outrages. Your joys. I'm just saying that I, personally, am getting weary having it pounded into my head everytime I visit your sites.

Anyway, I understand that, just as I am saying that you will not change anyone's mind, I will not change yours. I'm just letting off a little steam, is all. I'm sure I'll be back to posting about bathrooms and putting up pictures of pretty girls in two shakes of a lamb's tail.

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday morning.

Peace, y'all.

Huh? What's that about bathrooms?

Posted by: QC at March 21, 2004 08:55 AM

Thanks for not being political, I really don't like it either. For one thing, it's no fun!

Posted by: Chelle at March 21, 2004 09:00 AM

Well said. Very well said.

Posted by: Busy Mom at March 21, 2004 09:01 AM

I agree with you. I think it is Ok to get your opinion out there, and I do like hearing other people's opinions. However, it doesn't mean I am going to agree...

Posted by: Adelle at March 21, 2004 09:12 AM

I thought Kerry was the devil? Huh. I must have been misinformed.

Posted by: Genuine at March 21, 2004 09:25 AM

It's going to be a LONG year...

*sigh*

Posted by: judi at March 21, 2004 09:27 AM

Very well said, Buzz! It is OK for people to write what they want in their space, but there are other things going on in the world to talk about. Obsession is what it feels like to me.

Hope you have a great Sunday too - and PEACE!

Posted by: Karen at March 21, 2004 10:28 AM

**applause** Well said. I could not have said it any better. I have gotten to the point that if I see its a political post, I ignore it. Because it does not matter what I say, if I nicely comment saying "well...I see what your saying, but I feel this way...blah blah blah" I will get literally ripped into shreds, called stupid, told I don't know what I am talking about, and I am wrong, and they are right. So...I just stay away...I stay faaarrrr away.

Posted by: Liv at March 21, 2004 10:29 AM

I am SO with you on this one.

Posted by: Shelby at March 21, 2004 11:05 AM

Idem.

Posted by: Anji at March 21, 2004 11:06 AM

I agree wholeheartedly. So many of these people have other interesting things they can talk about... that's what drew me to their site in the first place. It's a shame.

Posted by: Margie at March 21, 2004 11:07 AM

And all of a sudden I feel like an asshole.

Posted by: mac at March 21, 2004 11:23 AM

I visit a variety of blogs, a handful of them are political. Some days I feel like reading them other days I don't. However, it is their space. Maybe it makes them feel better to write about it or maybe they feel they are somehow contributing to their 'cause' but either way, it is good to see that people have the passion and care. However your feelings are no different than mine; when I go to Jane Doe's site and have to read for the 10th time how her grandmother's diarrhoea has eased up or how her kitty is learning a new trick LOL Sometimes too much of one thing isn't necessarily a good thing!

Posted by: Kim at March 21, 2004 11:34 AM

Yes you are, as usual, right. If I want to hear/read that stuff, I'll turn on CNN or something. I read blogs to be entertained and to get a peak into other people's lives and compare their's to mine. Just one more thing: Go GWB! ;-)

Posted by: Nanc' at March 21, 2004 12:50 PM

I read enough news/current events on the web ( NPR, BBC & CNN ) throughout the day, that it is sometime the last thing I want to read on someon'es site. Of course there are exceptions...
Have a loverly Sunday!

Posted by: michelle at March 21, 2004 01:17 PM

I appreciate people like Michele, who report the news, then give their commentary on the issue. However, I am sick and tired of the political blogger who screams tolerance but trash every single person who isn't the same party as they are. Like, yeah, you're going to convert people over to your way of thinking when you spew such hatred and contempt from people who are DIFFERENT THAN YOU, even though what you like to preach is tolerance and openminded-ness. TO me, reading their blog is much like watching the TV evangelists they looooooove to trash. Whatever.

Oooops, I'm getting all political on you, sorry.

Who's George W?

Let's just start the Blog Party!

Posted by: Genuine at March 21, 2004 05:10 PM

Thank God someone finally said it. To my mind, the only thing more freakin' boring than politics is reading political opinions. Agh.

I think I've posted stuff on (Canadian) politics like...twice. Cuz they can be funny. But partisanship? Not so much.

Besides, I have all I can handle making crap drawings and then posting them in my blog. =D

Posted by: kat at March 21, 2004 06:02 PM

I want a sticker that says "I pooped" to wear on election days.

I don't care that you voted.

You don't care that I pooped.

Fair is fair.

Where's my buddy JJJJB???? I know he's with me on the poop sticker idea.

Posted by: Kathy Howe at March 21, 2004 09:12 PM

Thank you! But, you can't gripe at me when I talk about gay marriage. Because...well....you just can't!

Posted by: Kim at March 21, 2004 11:45 PM

Couldn't agree with you more. Well said.

Posted by: christine at March 22, 2004 01:24 AM

what i toss up there in my blog is an extension of what i'm thinking. and if it happens to be the political season, well then chances are there might be a post or two about it. then again, if the cat is doing lots of cute tricks this week, there might be lots of pictures of him. none of us get paid to blog, we do this for fun or as a psychological release. and i'm sure everyone out there is guilty of one too many posts on a topic that the rest of us couldn't care less about. let's not all make this bigger than it is.

when it comes down to it, follow the old adage, if you don't like it, don't read it.

Posted by: P at March 22, 2004 02:42 AM

I will second that or 24th it.... :-) Happy Monday to ya.

Posted by: Sallie at March 22, 2004 06:11 AM

Buzz For President!!!

Posted by: mel at March 22, 2004 07:00 AM

Poop for peace! Now who wants a coke? I'm buying.

Posted by: jjjjb at March 22, 2004 07:13 AM

Preach it, brutha! I try to stay away from that stuff as much as possible... plus my unwritten rule never to visit any site with "pundit" it the title. ;)

Posted by: Iki at March 22, 2004 08:12 AM

Hi ya, BuzzSaw. Now that was an odd juxtiposition, don't 'cha think? Bathrooms and pretty girls? Well, to each his own, I guess (heh-heh-heh).

Posted by: Colin at March 22, 2004 09:11 AM

Wow!! I skip jumping on the 'puter and surfin' the blogs for just one day, and look what I miss!!

How 'bout that Veteran's Stadium demolition, huh??

Posted by: keith at March 22, 2004 09:38 AM

I couldn't agree more! Every time I see a political post, I just pass right on by.

Posted by: Ash at March 22, 2004 10:38 AM

Hey, I thought *I* was the greatest world policeman ever!

Posted by: Jennifer at March 22, 2004 11:26 AM

I'm not real big on the "pundit" types, but I gotta say I particularly enjoy Mac's take on politics because she dishes it like a normal (well-read and intelligent) person. Her posts on the issues are just as interesting and entertaining to read as all her other stuff.

Maybe it's more about her writing style (and that I happen to agree with her a lot). Some people just shouldn't be blogging, especially when all they've got is dry, boring, unoriginal crap about politics. I imagine it's like reading a Soviet textbook or something.

Posted by: Erica at March 22, 2004 12:06 PM

Thanks for saying what needed to be said. I didn't realize just how bad things were getting on some of the political blogs until I was revisiting some sites on my blogroll I hadn't seen in awhile. I appreciate a funny comment about todays news here or there or something insightful, but it seems that as we get closer to election time some of these political bloggers have worked themselves into a frenzy. Made me shake my head in disgust and walk away.
