Benny

Know who I miss? Benny Hill. You remember him, right? Funny, saucy, dirty old man always surrounded by a bevy of buxom beauties and a bald little old man that always got slapped on his head. Fun harmless stuff. Here's some things about Benny that you may not have known:

His real name was Alfred Hawthorn Hill. He used the name Benny as an homage to Jack Benny.

He was never married, although he did propose twice.

He was left-handed.

Before he was a comedian he worked as a milkman.

He never owned a house or a car.

He had a terrible reputation for stealing material.

Jane Leeves (you may know her as Niles' girlfriend on Frazer) was a Benny Hill girl.

I loved to watch Benny Hill - it was one of those forbidden shows to watch when I was growing up, so I watched it every chance I got ;-) Such a rebel. I think I was young enough that I bet a lot of it went over my head.

Hi ya, Bud. Just found out about your site, so I'll be back often.

BTW, I LOVED Benny Hill.

Benny Hill was awesome! I loved the theme song and when he used to smack/pat the little bald guy on the head. LOL! I never did understand a lot of the humor though... I am still amazed that my Mom let me watch it. I think I was only 12-13 yrs old!

I hated him. In France they think that he represents typical English humour (not). I have a friend who was a dancer and she told me most of the girls would do anything rather than be on his show. Sorry.

"funny, saucy, dirty old man surrounded by a bevy of buxom beauties" i think I have taken on that mantle...

Benny Hill was one of those forbidden shows you snuck out to sit behind the recliner to watch late at night....or...was that just me?

Hey I was a kid...anything I was strictly forbidden to do became a target goal. A fact I remember with my children daily. *nods*

yeah, those were the days. just don't make em like they used to huH?

...and now, i've got the damn theme song stuck in my head... Buzz my friend -- you're killin me out here!! :)

i loved that show when i was a kid. him and reruns of The Three Stooges explain a lot about my sense of humor today.

I also have the theme song in my head, but that's OK because it displaced the one from Sanford and Son.

I loved Benny Hill as a kid. I think one of my favourite things was when he'd send a cherry flying into the air and it would land in what at first looked like cleavage of the bazzoom variety. It wouldn't be until he'd try to fish it out with a spoon that it would be revealed as plumber butt.

Some jokes are just classics.

Benny Hill is on at 5 a.m. on some cable channel. I see it on every once in awhile if I am up.

Affirmative. Benny Rox as does the old school British humour series "Are You Being Served?".

Good stuff.

I loved Benny so much that I once suggested to a friend of mine that he name his son Benny, but for whatever reason(s), he didn't go for it. I think that conversation happened in Valley Forge Park, if I remember correctly. Didn't you say that you lived about 15 minutes from there ?
