You wanna know who’s getting on my last nerve? The Democrats! Oh, and the Republicans! And PETA and the Boy Scouts and the NRA! And atheists. And Catholics. And Baptists. And televangelists! And the media. And don’t even get me started on Unions!!
I know that all of these groups started out with good intentions, but somewhere down the line those intentions got muddied. The problem? Zealots. Fanatical zealots! Each of these groups get taken over by the loudest, most radical members and then all hell breaks loose. They seem to lose the ability to use common sense. Just watch an hour of CNN and you will see examples of this. Go watch our government voting on an issue and you will see what I’m talking about. It’s ri-goddamn-diculous! And, I hate to say it, but I see the same blind fanatical following reflected in people's blogs. Sheesh!
I say we dump the lot and start all over. Who’s with me?
*ducks into the nearest hiding place*
Actually, I have to agree. Very few things warrant the kind of emotionalism that some people invest in them. That's why fanaticism is almost always misguided, no matter what the cause or the viewpoint. Moderation, people!

Posted by: Babz at January 21, 2004 09:38 AMI've been saying that for years. Fire 'em all and put everyday people in their place. Politicians suck, beureucrats (and the red tape they provide) suck, and there's not a single politician out there who isn't about as useful as a used car saleman trying to get rid of a lot of junkers for too much money.
Bah. I hate politics!
Posted by: Shelly at January 21, 2004 09:42 AMHell yes, Buzz! Dump 'em all! (Does this include my PTA president. She is all about rules and crap.) Down with the zealout, PTA, fanatical, rule making, vote taking lot of them!
But wait, this doesn't include the candidate I endorsed this morning does it? (I did get a bit political in my morning post.) I couldn't help it! I like the whole Folger's platform.
Posted by: Jenn at January 21, 2004 10:10 AMI was thinking the same thing but I didn't know how to say it without sounding like one of the "loudest, most radical.......Fanatical zealots". We've become a nation of X-this and X-that. Everything has to be extreme, far left or far right, black or white. I think most of us have opinions that are somewhere close to the middle, but we're forced to pick sides. It takes way too much energy to argue with these extremists, so we submit to their will and forget common sense.
Posted by: jjjjb at January 21, 2004 10:30 AMEverybody knows us atheists don't have any good intentions, Buzz. We're just evil, evil evil! Silly rabbit!
Posted by: Les at January 21, 2004 10:33 AMwhen you say dump the lot and start over, you're not talking about your blogroll are you?!!!
Posted by: P at January 21, 2004 10:57 AMOh no! I guess this mean's Buzz is dumping me!!! DOH!! *SOB*
Posted by: Cornelia at January 21, 2004 10:58 AMI'm with you. Everything gets so extreme, I think, because normal people are too busy going about their lives to make a cause their primary reason for life, so that leaves most causes open for the nutcases.
Posted by: TW at January 21, 2004 11:09 AMBuzz for President!
Posted by: judi at January 21, 2004 11:27 AMYes please! That's why everyone should vote for Pete and I for President in 2016. We don't have the taint of DC upon us.
Posted by: Mac at January 21, 2004 11:37 AMYou forgot the worst one of them all, it started out being such a noble cause but quickly went to hell! The ACLU, they suck I hate them and I wish they would either get a clue as to what they are doing or just go away!
Posted by: Jeff A at January 21, 2004 12:09 PMNot to start too serious of a discussion here, but I think the ACLU gets a bum rap.
Then again, I'm literally a card-carrying member so my opinion may be somewhat biased.
Posted by: Les at January 21, 2004 01:09 PMi say KILL ALL FANATICS!
Posted by: tj at January 21, 2004 01:30 PMYou can count me in!
Posted by: Ash at January 21, 2004 05:33 PMWhy are you picking on PETA? I'm all for People Eating Tasty Animals! Besides, they are pushing porn now days aren't they?
Posted by: nefarious at January 22, 2004 12:59 AMBuzz...
There may be an island or two available...
Or we could wait a few dozen years and start that Mars colony ...
Oh well, it is nice to dream...
