Boy Wonder

The year was 1966. I was 6 years old (but I was going on 7, I would have everyone know!). I remember my best friend at the time, Marshall Poole, and I loved the new nightly show 'Batman'. I mean, we loved that show! We would watch it every afternoon and then run around the neighborhood playing super-hero. We would try to rescue cats and dogs that were not in trouble. We would try to spot bad guys where there really were none. We were really trying to aid our community. Our community took no notice.

Then one day it happened. Marshall got a Batman outfit as a gift! He was like the real thing, man! He had the cape, the cowl, the boots, the tights, and most importantly, the Utility Belt. Oh man, how I coveted that Utility Belt. Sadly, all yours truly had was a bath towel and some clothespins. So guess who got to be Robin? Every time!

Let me tell you, being a sidekick, or "chum" as Marshall was fond of calling me, is much cooler on TV than in real life.

I haven't seen Marshall in 30 some years. I wonder whatever became of him and his family?

BAM! WHACK!

(Oh if I could just remember some of those other words that flashed up during fight scenes!)

My brothers would watch that after school EVERY SINGLE DAY! I hated it.... but of course, I got back at them... I made them watch the Brady Bunch.

LOL

My brother had a batman costume. One day, when he was 4 or 5, he ended up on the roof of our ranch... wanted to test out the cape's powers. Yours truly, dressed up as Wonder Woman, had to talk him down.

Our neighbors LOVED us.

Poor Buzz~utility belt envy will eat away at you every time. ;) I guess you must own a lot of power tools now to make up for your tragic childhood.

BTW~I'm so sorry I missed the chat~are you having another one soon?

I was into bad guys, so I always wanted to be one of Joker's, Riddler's, or Egghead's molls. Neither of my brothers watched because one was too busy riding his "garbage truck" in his "king hat" and traveling to distance places, while the other one was trying to convince mom that since she said he could be anything when he grew up, that meant he could be God. !!!

When I was a tyke, I also loved Batman. However, it was on during dinner. In my tiny tyke brain, I was SURE if I unplugged the TV then the show couldn't run and I could watch it after dinner, once I plugged the TV back in. Well, when it didn't work, I bitched out the family, demanding to know who had plugged the TV back in so that I missed Batman. *sigh* I miss being that ignorant.
